Dennis Patrick McConnell was born March 18, 1937 in Clinton, the son of Jack and Ramona Ione (Hawkins) McConnell. He married Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Mulholland on August 21, 1965 in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Clinton. He proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1956-1960.

He worked for International Paper Company for 32 years as a quality assurance supervisor retiring in 1995.

Denny is survived by his wife of 45 years, Liz of Clinton. Two sons: Brian (Robin) McConnell of Moline, Illinois and Keith (Erin) McConnell of Davenport, Iowa. One sister Nancy Rose of Clinton and his beautiful granddaughter Morgan, the daughter of Brian and Robin McConnell.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father.

Dennis was an avid sports fan and athlete. He loved Notre Dame Football, an exceptional golfer with three holes-in-one (which he just shrugged his shoulders.) Jim Cook, his golfing buddy for 40 years, witnessed his greatness at golf. He was also a beloved Bears fan, especially Walter Payton and Brian Piccolo, and a Hawkeyes enthusiast. He was a man of dignity, class, humor, respect and mostly love. More than anything in his life was the love of his family and how he loved them with all of his heart. He was so proud of all his sons’ accomplishments and especially his granddaughter Morgan.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Heart Association.
