Joan Vogt

Joan Ruth Vogt, 75, formerly of Camanche died Thursday, July 8, 2010, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Funeral services will be 10:30am, Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 – 7PM, Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche.

Joan was born September 5, 1934, in Clinton County, Iowa the daughter of Alfred and Wilma (Goers) Knutsen. She married Carl Vogt June 12, 1955 in DeWitt, Iowa; he died June 7, 1995.

She was employed as a cashier at the A&P Market in Clinton for many years and sold Avon for six years.

Joan was of the Methodist faith and was a former member of St. Mark’s Methodist Church, Camanche and MFSA. She moved to the Cedar Rapids area in 1996 to live with her daughter. While in Cedar Rapids she attended Milestones Adult Day Center, where she made many friends and developed her love of oil painting. She moved to the Heritage Nursing Home in 2001 and while at Heritage she pushed for more activities, including gardening, art, bird watching and cooking opportunities for the residents. She enjoyed spending time with her family at gatherings and get togethers. She was always empathetic towards others and would always remember everyone with a greeting card.

She is survived by two daughters, Kim (Dan) Bentley of Camanche and Stephanie (John) Orozco of Cedar Rapids, IA; four grandchildren, Nicole (Dave) Carber, Bradley Johnson and Peyton and Kendall Orozco; two step-grandchildren, Aaron and Amber Orozco; great-grandchildren, Sierra, Levi and Harlee Carber and two sisters, Marilyn (Ronnie) Petersen of Elvira, IA and Brenda Knutsen of Clinton.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
