Clinton - Luella L. Lundquist age 102 died Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at the Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 9th at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home and from 9:30 A.M. until the service time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Eric Lundquist, Douglas Hill, Keith King, Douglas Susie, Alan Hill and Gary Burst. Honorary casket bearers are Roy and Richard Wiese and Paul and Lois Specht.

Luella was born in Lyons, Iowa on September 18, 1907, the daughter of August and Erna Dethmann Schoening. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1926 and had attended Clinton Business College. Luella married Alvar Lundquist on December 3, 1931 in Lyons. Alvar died in March of 1979. Luella was employed as a copy editor for the Clinton Herald and later as secretary with Redman Insurance Agency. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she and her husband formed the Couples Club. Luella was active in the church with the Sewing Circle, Over 50 Club and Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading and playing bridge.

The United States Government purchased over 10 acres of her family farm to build the Schick Hospital complex. They were given 30 days to move their home and farm buildings to the western part of their acreage. In the 1970’s, she and her husband developed the acres that were left into Lundquist Heights subdivision.

Luella is survived by three daughters; Lois (Russ) Henningsen of Fulton, Joan (John) Rathje Chick of Lake of the Ozarks, and Carol (Robert) Hill of Clinton; a son, Phil (Lorraine) Lundquist of Camanche; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son-in-law, Russell Rathje and an infant sister. Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Building Fund or the Sarah Harding Home.
