Clinton, Iowa - Monica M. Ries, age 88 of Clinton, died Saturday June 26, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 30th at the Pape Funeral Home. A Funeral Liturgy Outside of Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 A.M. Wednesday with Rev. Thom Hennen officiating. Burial will be in the St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Monica’s grandchildren and nephews.

Monica was born in Zwingle, Iowa on May 2, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Nellie Feeney Slattery. She attended Lyons High School and graduated from Dubuque High School. Monica married William “Bill” Ries on August 18, 1945 at St. Boniface Church. Bill died on March 14, 2004. She had been employed with E.I. DuPont, A.C. Nielsen Company, Burpee Seed and Von Maur’s. Monica was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and had been an active volunteer at the former St. Irenaeus Church functions. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s activities, decorating her home, sewing, cooking, camping, traveling and watching “Wheel of Fortune”.

Monica is survived by two daughters Barbe (Mrs. Robert) McGee of Clinton and Beth Ryan of Bettendorf/San Diego; a daughter-in-law Mary Ries of Clinton; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.; a brother, Raymond “Gus” (Jeanette) Slattery of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Jeannie Ries of Clinton and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Brad in 1989; a son-in-law, Jon Ryan; four sisters, Faustina Bassler, Dorothy Keeney, Marian Lyons and Ila Thomsen and two brothers, William and Donald Slattery. Memorials may be made to the Prince of Peace Schools, Mercy Medical Center Foundation or Clinton Little League Baseball. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com
