Cal Taylor

Henry C. “Calvin” Taylor, 85, of Clinton passed away peacefully Monday, April 26, 2010 at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, AZ. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 pm Friday, April 30, 2010 at the Clinton Chapel. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery.

Cal was born on July 11, 1924 in rural Maquoketa, IA, the son of Theodore and Caroline (Straub) Taylor. He was a 1942 Maquoketa High School graduate. He married Arlene M. Heide on October 21, 1945. They had two children, Tom and Amy, and were happily married for 38 years until she passed away on July 24, 1983.

He was a United States Army veteran serving during WWII.

Cal and Arlene spent much of their married life in Clinton, where he worked as a rural mail carrier, and later at DuPont Cellophane Co. for 20 years until retiring in 1985.

Cal loved his family very much. He was a huge Chicago Cubs fan and was split on the Hawkeyes and the Cyclones. He enjoyed camping and spending time at the casino. He and Arlene spent many years vacationing with their friends Marge and Dale Koch. Cal loved traveling to Arizona, and has made it an annual event for the last 26 years.

He is survived by one son: Tom R. (Barbara) Taylor of Des Moines, IA; one daughter: Amy Brenneman of Cedar Rapids, IA; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Katie) Taylor, Jennifer (Doug) Freking, Eric (Melanie) Brenneman, and Megan Brenneman; 4 great grandchildren: Sydney, Calvin, Adaline, and Will; 2 sisters: Camilla (Jerry) Ritenour of Preston, and Marcella Cahill of Peoria, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Arlene, his sister Freida, and his brother John.

Cal will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
