Robert Gripton

Robert B. (Bud) Gripton, 75, of Camanche, formerly of Capac, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010 his home.

He was born December 17, 1934 in Capac, Michigan, son of the late Albert and Gladys (Clarkson) Gripton.

Robert married Helene I. Bartl on January 12, 1957 in Neu Ulm, Germany.

Robert served in the World War II German occupation in the Army Infantry, multiple tours in the Korean Conflict in the Army Infantry, multiple tours in the Vietnam War in the Army Infantry. He transferred to the United States Air Force and retired on December 31, 1975. He retired from Civil Service at the U.S. Army Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois on December 31, 1997. He was a life member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9664 in Camanche, Iowa. He loved to fish. He was a loving husband, father grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Robert is survived by his wife Helene of Camanche, Iowa; daughter and son-in-laws: Terri and Steve Potter of Preston, Iowa; Tia and Mark Hess of Hope Mills, North Carolina; and Trina and Donald Mink of Camanche, Iowa; sons and daughter-in-laws: Robert and Sandra Gripton of Abilene, Texas and Timothy and Pamela Gripton of Clinton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law: James and Barbara Gripton of Muskegon, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Albert and Gladys Gripton and four sisters: Sally Allard, Bethel Hollis, Donna Chase, and Marjorie Shutt.

A Private Memorial Gathering will be held at Robert’s house 615 7th Avenue –Camanche on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 3:00pm with a prayer at 4:00pm. Entombment of the cremains will be 1:00pm, Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family.

Memorial tributes may be made to the American Cancer Society.
