Robert Hythecker

Wheatland. Robert Hythecker, age 90, of Wheatland, Iowa, died February 12, 2010, at Genesis Hosptial, Dewitt. Robert was born May 30, 1919, in Claremont, Montana to Robert Hythecker and Valborg (Johnson) Hythecker. Robert married Ethel Voelkers on March 8, 1944, in Wheatland.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Please send Memorials to St. Paul's United Church of Christ or Wheatland Ambulance.

Bob was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army Air Force as an airplane engine mechanic for five years. He owned and operated Bob's Motor Clinic in Wheatland for 40 years. He was then a custodian at Calamus-Wheatland schools. Bob was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Wheatland; Wheatland American Legion Post #447; and the Wheatland Lions Club. He served twelve years as manager of the Wheatland Community Center and was actively involved as a volunteer in many town activities.

He is survived by wife Ethel; son Norman (Velma) of Weatherford, Texas; daughter Janet (Mike) Ahrens of Roanoke, Illinois; and daughter in-law Darla Hythecker of Dewitt, Iowa. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, his son Mark Hythecker, and grandson Robert Hythecker.
