Alice Rekemeyer

Dewitt, Iowa. Alice Rekemeyer, age 80, of Dewitt, Iowa, died from cancer on March 1, 2009, at West Wing Place in Dewitt. Alice was born October 31, 1928, in Clarence, Iowa, to Henry and Selma (Wendt) Esbaum.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence, Iowa. Burial will follow at Inland Cemetery, Bennett, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 1:00pm until service time on Wednesday, March 4, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or Camp Courageous of Iowa.

Alice attended Cedar and Scott county schools and was a graduate of Davenport Central High School. She taught school in rural Scott county before her marriage to George Rekemeyer on August 21, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa. The couple farmed near Bennett for 20 years, before moving to Dewitt in 1968. Mrs. Rekemeyer was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading and traveling. She was a member of Living Faith Church in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Alice is survived by her loving husband of 60 years George; sons Ralph (Anita) Rekemeyer and Russell Rekemeyer and grandchild Alison Rekemeyer, all of Dewitt; sister Donna Harrell of Rossville, Georgia; nieces Sonja Davie of Burlington, Antario and Dr. Leisha Harrell Espy of Rossville, Georgia.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents and brother Merle Esbaum.
