Dorothy L. Miller

Wheatland. Dorothy L. Pingel Miller, age 92 beloved wife of George W., devoted, loving mother to Carol L. entered God’s eternal home on Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Alexian Brothers Hospital, Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Born and raised in Lost Nation, Iowa, she was welcomed into the family of Otto and Mary Reyelts Pingel, brother Arthur and sister Esther, on August 24, 1915. They lived on a farm southeast of Lost Nation, Iowa. She walked over a mile to a one-room country school and graduated from Lost Nation High School. On February 12, 1935, Dorothy married George W. Following their marriage they lived in Calamus, Iowa, moving to Wheatland, Iowa in 1948 with their daughter, Carol.

Upon moving to Wheatland, Dorothy was employed at the Wheatland Community School and in 1952, joined the First Trust & Savings Bank, retiring in 1981 after twenty-nine years.

During her “retirement years,” she volunteered for 11 years, as bookkeeper, for the Wheatland Ambulance. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Martha Aid, Wheatland Library Board, Charter Member of the Wapsi Oaks Country Club and volunteer on community projects.

She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Carol, currently living in Schaumberg, IL.

God made a wonderful mother,
A mother who never grew old,
He made her smile of sunshine
And molded her heart of gold.
In her eyes He placed bright shining stars
In her cheeks, fair roses you see
God made a wonderful mother
And He gave that dear mother to me.

The visitation will be held at the Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland, Iowa, on Friday, March 7, 2008, from 4 pm to 7 pm. The Celebration of Life will be held at the St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Wheatland, IA, on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at 10:30 am. Internment in Pine Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul’s united Church of Christ, Wheatland Ambulance or the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
