Associated PressCHANNAHON, Ill. — CLARENCE, Mo. — Jesse (Jay) Butler Payne, age 93, of Clarence, MO, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Loch Haven Nursing home in Macon.
He was born on March 7, 1916, in Franks, OK, the son of Jess Butler and Beulah Lee (Stafford) Payne. He was united in marriage to Hazel Harrison. She preceded him in death.
Jesse auctioneered for the Montazuma Masonic Lodge in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was a member of the Clinton Church of Christ in Clinton, IA, and enjoyed playing the harmonica, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Lynn Payne and wife, Joy, of Camanche, IA, and Bob Payne and wife of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lydia Belle Houchen of California.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one grandson, Toby Payne; three brothers and two sisters.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Services will be handled by the Greening-Eagan-Hayes Funeral Home in Macon.
