Obituary

Although not unexpected, the death of Mrs. Dee Phillips, one of Clinton county’s most highly respected women, was learned with sorrow last Tuesday morning. For many months Mrs. Phillips had been in very poor health, but bore her sufferings with patience and cheerfully accepted her lot. Mrs. Marilla Goodenow-Phillips was born in Clinton county, January 21, 1862, and spent nearly all her life on the old parental Royal Goodenow homestead, and passed away Tuesday Sept. 2, 1919. On February 4, 1880, she was united in marriage to Dee Phillips, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Henry Tiller. To this union were born three children, who with the faithful husband, survive the kind, loving wife and mother. The children are: Mrs. Bruce Dice of near this city, Mrs. Roy Kozak of Maquoketa and Ralph at home. Also three brothers, Nelson Goodenow of Ord. Neb.; Charles of Wall Lake, Ia.; Bert of Dupree, S. D. and one sister, Mrs. H. O. Butterworth of this city. The funeral was held from the late home south of this city last Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock Rev. D. F. Boomershine of the Reformed church officiating. Interment was made in Union cemetery.
