DEWITT — Madge (Mrs. Marvin) Knutsen, 87, DeWitt, died Saturday morning, February 13, 2010, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. Madge Theresa Stender was born October 22, 1922, in Grand Mound, to Matthias Sr. and Nora (Meyer) Stender. On October 9, 1946, Madge was united in marriage to Marvin Knutsen at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The couple farmed at rural DeWitt. Madge was also employed by Barnes Foodland Bakery for 12 years until retirement in 1989. Her husband preceded her in death on June 7, 1999. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, and the former Anna Circle as well as a Sewing Circle. She also was a member of the S and S Card Club and enjoyed volunteer work at church, feeding the birds, baking and reading. Madge was a resident of Westwing Place since 2006 where she enjoyed volunteering, the Westwing activities and made many special friends. Surviving are children, Kathleen Spenny and her husband, Walter, Morrison, Illinois, and Ronald Knutsen and his wife, Nancy, Davenport; grandchildren, Rachel Knutsen, Jason Knutsen, Jeremy (Valarie) Knutsen, Michael Zielstorf, Andrew (Cassie) Spenny, Lisa (Justin) Tillman and Nicol (Mike) Digiacomo; great-grandchildren, Kimber Knutsen, Karl Knutsen, Stephanie Knutsen, Riley Spenny, Macie Spenny, Collin Tillman and Jacob Digiacamo; a great-great-grandson, Jeremiah Knutsen; a sister, Shirley Saladino, Davenport, and a brother, Matt Jr. (Mary) Stender, East Moline, Illinois; a special sister-in-law, Elsie Knutsen. Preceding Madge in death in addition to her husband, were her parents and a sister, June Knutsen. The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010. A service of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, in Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt, with the Rev. Brad A. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.Death date: Feb. 13, 2010
