DEWITT — Donald Patrick Dunn, 85, DeWitt, died Sunday morning, October 11, 2009, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport.He was born January 24, 1924, in Clinton, to John and Theresa (Banowetz) Dunn and graduated from St. Mary High School, Clinton, in 1942. Don was a decorated veteran of World War II, receiving two Purple Hearts and Bronze Stars. He fought in the European Theater including the Battle of Bulge and others. He married Lois Grill, May 12, 1947, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clinton. Don farmed all of his life in Clinton County.Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Petersville, Clinton County Cattlemen and Pork Producers, Farm Bureau and Charlotte American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, fishing, traveling and his friends and activities at the DeWitt Hart Center.Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Lois; children, Gary Dunn, DeWitt, and Nancy Baca and her husband, John, Arlington, Washington; grandchildren, Christa and Elizabeth; a great-grandchild, Brea; a brother, David Dunn, Mesa, Arizona and a sister, Kathleen Schoening, Thomson, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Judy Dunn, Camanche; several nieces and nephews.Preceding Don in death were a son, Stephen; his parents; and a brother, Kenneth.The family will receive friends at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009 with a vigil service at 6:00 p.m. A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, with the Rev. Fr. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials may be designated to Immaculate Conception Parish, Petersville or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.Pallbearers will be Kenny, Denny and Don Schoening, Mike Dunn, Mike Drury, Bob Snyder, Matt, Pat and DJ Dunn.Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.
