FULTON, Ill. — Dorothy Poel, 93, of Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, Illinois, died Monday, August 24, 2009, at Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, Illinois.Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel -Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with the Rev. Edie Lenz, pastor of First Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2009, at the Fulton Chapel -Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, Illinois.Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.She was born May 30, 1916, in Albany, IL, to Louis and Mary (Newendyke) Buikema. Dorothy was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools. She married Allen Poel on February 22, 1940, in Fulton, IL; he died June 19, 2009. She engaged in farming along with her late husband in the rural Fulton area from 1940 to 1960. She also worked as an Avon representative and later worked for Lord Baltimore Press, Clinton, IA. She then was employed as a nurse's aide for Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL. She was a member of First Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, the church's Helping Hand Society and King's Daughters. She served as a Sunday school teacher and also as superintendent. She was a member of T.O.P.S. Dorothy enjoyed ceramics, knitting and crocheting.Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn (Arnold) Huizenga of Fulton, IL; one son, Eugene Poel of Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Jane (Jerry) Lewis, Gary (Dawn) Huizenga, Tom Huizenga, Matthew (Sheila) Huizenga, Kim (Paul) Mehring, Craig (Jennifer) Bush; seventeen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Luella Deelsnyder of Fulton, IL; and one brother, Louis (Helen) Buikema of Fulton, IL.She was preceded in death by one daughter, Carol Bush; five sisters, Nellie Klimstra, Tena Sissing, Winnie Van Zuiden, Jennie Beckmann, Lucy Sissing; and three brothers, Henry, Walter and Marion Buikema.
