MAQUOKETA — Darrel H. Kleppe, age 74, of Maquoketa, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2009, at Manor Care in Dubuque. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Goose Lake Community Center. All friends and family are welcomed to help celebrate Darrel's life with his family. Cremation rites have been accorded. Darrel was born on June 27, 1935, in Tipton, IA, the son of Fred and Frieda (Heisch) Kleppe. He served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany. He married Diane Weih on March 30, 1958, in Bennett, IA. He farmed near Stanwood, Iowa, before moving to a farm in Clinton County. His pride and joy was feeding cattle. He and Dianne later moved to Goose Lake where they owned and operated a bar and restaurant for 3 years. They then retired to Maquoketa. He enjoyed going to his grandkids sporting events, watching Nascar and the Cubs. Darrel is survived by his wife, Dianne, of Maquoketa; two daughters, Teri (Jeff) Howe and Joni (Tom) Krogman, both of Clinton; a son, Todd (Tammy) Kleppe of Bryant, IA; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Cassidy) Peterson, Tyler and Jordan Howe; Trenton, Trevor, Taylor, and Tanner Kleppe; and Dustin and Kody Krogman.; a twin brother, Donn (Karolyn) Kleppe of Stanwood, IA; and a sister, Marge Bequeaith of Stanwood, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Fred and Frieda Kleppe; and one grandson, Samuel Krogman. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com. Death date: Aug. 22, 2009
