Mrs. Anna Maria Maltus, wife of Wm. Maltus, near Welton station, died very suddenly on Friday evening of last week. The deceased spent the previous Monday evening with the family of Mr. Cundill of this city. On Wednesday she took a leading and helpful part at a wedding near her home. She seemed in usual health and spirits up to the afternoon of her death. Apoplexy was the cause of her death.

Mrs. Maltus was one of our oldest and most respected citizens. She moved with her husband to their homestead twenty-seven years ago. They have been prospered in worldly affairs and have enjoyed the confidence and esteem of all neighbors and acquaintances during all those years. She was specially noted for her kind and generous hospitality. She was indeed a noble hearted Christian woman and her decease is lamented by the entire community. Although an Episcopalian by birth and early training she yet joined in heartily with the services of other evangelical denominations. She deemed it a duty and privilege to worship and commune at the Lord’s table with the members of the Reformed Church a few miles west of Welton. She was buried at the graveyard adjacent to the Free Will Baptist Church near Welton. A vast concourse of people, enough to fill the church several times was present at the funeral. Rev. C. Cort officiated and preached a sermon.
