Ellis, Lyle E.

Lyle Edward Ellis (May 1, 1926 - July 29, 2009) DEWITT — Lyle E. Ellis, 83, of DeWitt, died on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. He was born May 1, 1926, in Postville, Iowa, the son of Clifford and Dorothy Schlitter Ellis. On March 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Doris E. Walby at Waukon, Iowa. They were married for 62 years. Lyle was a World War II Army veteran. Before his retirement, he worked for the REC for over 40 years working as a lineman and retired as an area supervisor. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. He loved Iowa Football, Old Westerns especially John Wayne, card games with friends and family and family events. Survivors include his wife, Doris; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry D. (Estell) Ellis, Corpus Christi, TX, Mark E. (Mitzi) Ellis, Lakeville, MN., Jason L. (Trish) Ellis, Bettendorf, IA., Kevin W. Ellis, Davenport, IA., and Kent L. (Donna) Ellis, Coralville, IA.; grandchildren, Colleen (James) Alaniz, Erik (Clarissa) Ellis, Jena (Brian) Barch, Camden Ellis, Kendra Ellis, Lindsay Ellis, Kyle Ellis, Tiffany Ellis and Carolyn Ellis; great-grandchildren, Austin Gain and Camron Ellis; and his brothers, Darwin (Marilyn) Ellis, Postville, IA, and Gary Ellis, Bloomfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Diane Ellis. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in DeWitt. The Rev. Jeff Wartgow will officiate. Military services by Eugene McManus Post #238, DeWitt. Visitation will be 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home on Friday, July 31, 2009. Burial will be at Frankville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kyle Ellis, Randy Ellis, Dave Harbold, Brian Barch, Mike Bunce and Larry Mork. Honorary pallbearers will be Erik Ellis, Camden Ellis, Larry Frandsen, Robert Hansen and Mike Burke. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice, Congregational Church, DeWitt, and the American Cancer Society.
