CLINTON — Velda I. Youngblood, 88, of Clinton died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p,m. Friday, June 26, 2009, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton with a visitation held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday in Davenport Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her six grandchildren: Scott P. Shearrow, Dawn Soenksen Pool, Sara Shearrow Clark, Christopher P. Soenksen, Nathaniel J. Abbott and Megan Abbott Bailey. Velda Ida Youngblood was born on October 20, 1920, in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Fred and Julia (Jens) Wulf. She was a 1938 graduate of Davenport High School. She married William K. Youngblood on May 24, 1941, in Davenport; he died on September 2, 1990. Velda and William moved to Clinton, IA, in 1949, where they made their home. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. She had been previously employed with Rose's Gift Shop in Clinton for 10 years. She is survived by three daughters, Beverly (Richard) Soenksen of Livingston, TX, Carol (William) Shearrow of Machesney Park, IL, and Patricia (Richard) Abbott of Richmond, VA; 6 grandchildren, 4 stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 8 stepgreat-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure or to the American Diabetes Association.
