GRAND MOUND — Lonnie Kay (Mrs. Julius) Michel, 55, Grand Mound, died Monday at home. Lonnie was born October 9, 1953, in Davenport, Iowa, the daughter of Melvin and Marjorie (Seehusen) Lerch. She graduated from Davenport West High School and Scott Community College with a degree in computer science. Lon was united in marriage to Julius Michel, October 18, 1974, at St. Mark Lutheran Church, Davenport. Lon did a work study with the City of Rock Island. In 1974, she became employed with Iowa Mutual Insurance Company, DeWitt, where she was currently working as a systems programmer. Lon was a member of Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound. She loved music and could play various instruments. Lon was an accomplished artist with various painting mediums. She was an avid reader and enjoyed reading, biking, horses and outdoor projects. Lon and Julius traveled much throughout the United States and Europe. She was an energetic and busy gal. Surviving are her husband, Julius; her mother and stepfather, Marge and Don Long, Lost Nation; a brother- and sister-in-law, Ron and Sue Lerch, DeWitt; and their daughters, Asheley (Wade) Smith and Traci Lerch; other relatives and friends. Preceding Lon in death was her father. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 2009, with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. The Liturgy of Christian Burial for Lonnie will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Saints Philip and James Catholic Church, Grand Mound, with the Rev. Fr. David Brownfield presiding. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.Death date: June 22, 2009
