STERLING, Ill. — John E. Rohwer Sr., 83, of Sterling, died Friday, June 5, 2009, at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Mr. Rohwer was born May 15, 1926, in Fullerton, CA, the son of Ernest and Florence (Tucker) Rohwer. He married Joan Arians on May 16, 1948, in Clinton, IA. John graduated from Clinton Iowa High School in 1943. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1947 where he was an announcer for Armed Forces Radio on the island of Ulithi. In 1947, he returned to Clinton where he worked as an announcer for KROS in Clinton. He moved to WSDR in August, 1949. He was co-owner and manager of WJVM radio from 1966 to 1988. Survivors include his wife; a daughter, JoAnn (Rick) Smith, of Bloomington; a stepsister, Phyllis Abbot, of Camanche, IA; 4 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, J.R. Rohwer. There will be no services. A memorial has been established. Send condolences to schillingfuneralhome.com.Death date: June 5, 2009
