BETTENDORF — Kay E. (Shoesmith) Sodemann, 69, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Clarrisa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa. Friends are welcome to celebrate Kay's life with the family at her visitation Tuesday, May 12, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at Runge Mortuary in Davenport. There will be a private service and memorial in Audubon, Iowa, at a later date. Kay was born on March 29, 1940, in Audubon, Iowa, to Marvel Shoesmith and Gladys (Olson) Shoesmith. She graduated of Audubon High School in 1958. Kay held various clerical positions with Employers Mutual Company in Des Moines and Iowa Mutual in DeWitt until 1969. Kay's greatest passion, outside of her grandchildren, was making handmade quilts that she shared with her family and her close friends. Kay was a loving and generous mother that always provided for others before herself. Kay enjoyed and endured many things in her life, but most important was raising her family with solid, Iowa farm-based values. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.She is survived by her two children, Becci Sodemann Hall (Dennis) of Polk City and David Sodemann (Gretel) of Davenport; sisters, Patricia Scott (Carroll) of Williamsburg, Sandra Crees (Gary) of West Des Moines, Donna Gregerson (John) of Sheridan, Wyoming, Karen Voight (Dave) of Mansfield, South Dakota; and brothers, Darrell Shoesmith (LaVonne) of Audubon, and Darwin Shoesmith (Kathy) of Coggin. Kay had five grandchildren, Mackenzie and Payton Sodemann of Davenport and Patrick, Matthew and Zachary Hall of Polk City, Iowa. Kay was preceded into eternal life by her husband, Jim Sodemann; and her parents, Marvel and Gladys Shoesmith.In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that any memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.Death date: May 7, 2009
