Jason T. McGinty, age 50, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at his home. According to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date at Lower York Cemetery in Thomson, Illinois. A memorial has been established in Jason's memory. Jason was born on March 7, 1959, at home in Thomson, Illinois, the son of Richard S. and Yvonne (Atkins) McGinty. He was educated in the Thomson Schools. He married Carman Renner in 1976. They later divorced. He then married Becky Hook on May 13, 1996, in Mt. Carroll. Jason was employed as a technician at General Electric for 32 years. Jason could fix almost anything. He had a great ability to "just figure it out." When his wife wanted a pond, he built the most beautiful pond which was the highlight of many garden shows. His wife was delighted to find out he was a pretty good carpenter in their many home remodeling projects.This earned him the nickname of "Manly Man" from his wife. Jason loved his MOPAR muscle cars. He did all the restoration himself and displayed them at many car shows. He loved spending time with his grandchildren Layne and Owen. He was lovingly referred to as Grandpa Gummi Bear for the Gummi Bear treats he always brought them. Jason will be dearly missed by his wife and his family. Jason is survived by his loving wife, Becky; two daughters, Brandy (Chad) Stephenson and Stacy (Joe) Stephenson, both of Fulton, Illinois; one stepson, Lewis Creed Jr. at home; his mother, Yvonne McGinty of Thomson; his father and mother-in-law, Don and Carol Hook of Fulton; two brothers, Kevin (Vicky) McGinty of Mt. Carroll, and Shawn McGinty of Waukegan, Illinois; two sisters, Babette (Terry) Elliot and Aleda Doran, both of Thomson; two grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Jason was preceded in death by his father, Richard McGinty; and his beloved daughters, Angela and Ekkoe McGinty.Death date: April 29, 2009
