CLINTON — Leland G. Wilcke, age 80, of rural Clinton, died Friday, April 24, 2009, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton. Following his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. A private burial will be Tuesday at the Miles Cemetery. Leland was born in rural Miles, Iowa, on May 27, 1928, the son of Marvin and Marie Andresen Wilcke. He graduated from Miles High School in 1945. Leland married Dorothy Mohr on June 6, 1948, in Miles. Leland and Dorothy farmed north of Andover for over fifty years. Leland was an early proponent of conservation techniques and was one of the first no-till farmers in Clinton County. Leland made an extensive line of furniture, much to the enjoyment of his family and friends. He had been an active member and past president of the Andover Lions Club and served as the Eastern Iowa Zone Chairman. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, working in his yard, tending to his rose garden and following the Cubs. Leland is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Randall (Marcy) Wilcke of Clinton and Gary (Marilyn) Wilcke of Ames; four grandchildren, Beth (Chris) Neipert, Luke (Desiree) Wilcke, Nathan (Meredith) Wilcke and Marc (Emily) Wilcke; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald (Gloria) Wilcke of Miles and Kenneth (Ruth) Wilcke of Walcott, IA; and a sister, Joyce (Ken) Lenz of Green Valley, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother. Memorials may be made to the Wilcke Scholarship at East Central School, Miles.Death date: April 24, 2009
