MILES — Steven Allen Hankemeier, 55, of 108 Ferrry Road, Miles, Iowa, died Thursday December 4, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque. There will be no visitation according to Steven’s wishes. His body will be donated to the Iowa City School of Medicine, Iowa City, with the hope of finding a cure for neurological disorders. His body will then be cremated. A private family memorial service will be at a later date. Leonard Funeral Home and Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Rd., Dubuque, IA, is in charge of arrangements. Steven was born on December 3, 1953, in Maquoketa, IA, the son of Marvin L. and Janice (Wurster) Hankemeier. He graduated from Miles High School in 1973. He married Bernadette Weis on October 20, 1979, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, IA. Steve was a very hard working and devoted dairy farmer for over 30 years. He loved and had the highest respect for all animals. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 29 years Bernie; two sons, Ryan of the United States National Guard, Michael of Houston, TX; two daughters, Wendy of Long Island, New York, and Jill who lives at home; two grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Lee of Miles, IA; and one sister, Marsha Ralston of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jon; and a sister, Sherryl Lomsdalen. Death date: Dec. 4, 2008
