In Loving Memory 1919-2008 Vernon L. Goers, 89, of Clinton, IA, died Wednesday at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2008, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 5, 2008, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig where an 8 p.m. Rose Croix service will be conducted. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Dick Miller, Jeff Miller, Mark Petersen, Shawn Petersen, Cole Petersen and Steve Werner. Vernon was born September 25, 1919, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Herman and Adeline V. (Siegworth) Goers. He was a 1947 Clinton High School graduate. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He married Dorothy Symons in September of 1940; she died in 1982. He later married Myra C. Bush in October of 1982. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Western Star Masonic Lodge #100 AF and AM, the Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, KAABA Shriners, Clinton Shrine Club, Clinton Shrine Oriental Band, Order of the Eastern Star, Hi-Twelve, AMVETS, American Legion and was a former Moose Lodge member. Vern had been a local musician since 1939 and was a member of the Special Services Band during WWII in Central Europe. Survivors include his wife, Myra, of Clinton; daughters, Donna (Richard) Miller and Judith Petersen, both of Clinton; 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a half sister, Imogene Siegworth of Mt. Carroll, IL. His parents and his first wife preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital, Genesis Hospice or to the church.
