HELMETTA, N.J. — George H. Creighton Jr., age 75, formerly of Thomson, died Nov. 11, 2008, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J. George was born October 10, 1933, at the home of Jennie French in Lyons, Iowa, the son of George and Lottie (Edwards) Creighton.He attended Thomson schools and graduated from York Community High School in 1953 where he was active in sports (baseball, basketball, track and field), class plays and music groups. Some may remember him as the Giant in “Jack and the Beanstalk.”He served in the U.S. Army from January 1954 to January 1957 and was stationed in Orleans, France. After his military service, his wife, Margaret Wade and he, moved to Chicago and Indiana before settling in Edison, N.J., where George managed the Carolier Bowling Center for 25 years.George enjoyed fishing and bowling and was inducted into the Middlesex County Bowling Hall of Fame in 1996 for meritorious service to bowling. He never gave up on the Cubs and was forever loyal to the Bears. But his greatest love and enjoyment was the time he spent with his family.He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, who died in 1996.He is survived by four daughters, Kristine (Joseph) Yeelencsics, Kathy (Donald) Nowitzke, Georgia (William) Dobrzynski, and Katrel Colangelo and seven grandchildren, Billy, Margaret, Steven, Sarah, Joseph, Kaylynn and Kyle, all of New Jersey; two brothers, John Creighton and Bob (Trudy) Wells; four sisters, Darlene (Harry) Clarke, Pamalee (Robert) Eninger, Lana (Jeffery) Woodard and Melodie (Mary) Creighton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.George was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Wells, his parents, George Sr. and Nellie (LaShelle) Creighton; his sister, Helen; his in-laws, Bob and Babe Wade; and brother-in-law, Bobby Wade.Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1600 Route 22 East, Union, NJ 07083.Condolences may be sent to the family at 2603 Candle Light Court, Helmetta, NJ 08828-1142.Death date: Nov. 11, 2008
