FULTON, Ill. — Donald M. Cousins, 75, a resident of Fulton, Ill., died peacefully on Dec. 12, 2008, at Bickford Cottage in Clinton, IA, following a brief illness. Don was born August 22, 1933, in Clinton County to Claude and Merle Leese Cousins. He attended school in Welton. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Korea and Okinawa. Don worked for International Paper for over 30 years. After his retirement he enjoyed remodeling apartments, selling real estate and dealing Black Jack on the Mississippi Belle II. Don’s many interests and hobbies were a source of great enjoyment to him. He was a member of the Western Star Lodge #100 AF and AM and the Kaaba Shrine. Don was an avid golfer and a long-time member of the Clinton Country Club, where he was thrilled to make a registered hole in one in 1992. He loved music and dancing and was proud of his Arthur Murray ballroom dance trophy. Don really loved living on the Mississippi River, but he was never happier than when traveling to some remote part of the world. Don really knew how to enjoy life! He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Betty Schepers of Sun City, Ariz., and her children, Duane, Jana and Mark, as well as Marilyn Stankee, his domestic partner, and her children, Jill, Glen, and Gail, and grandchildren Chris, Lindsay, Laura, Robert, Lisa and Melissa, and great-grandson Carson. Snell Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Cremation rites have been accorded per Don’s wishes. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Shriners Children’s Hospitals as Don has requested. Online condolences may be left by visiting www.snellzornig.com.Death date: Dec. 12, 2008
