CLINTON — William D. Carlson, 74, of Clinton, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at his home in Clinton. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory with Father Thomas J. Hennen officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to the service time Saturday at the funeral home. William D. Carlson was born on June 9, 1934, in Mitchell, South Dakota, the son of Edward and Hazel (Hull) Carlson. He married Ardean Pokorny on September 10, 1955, in Clinton. He was a 1952 graduate of Clinton High School. He later completed a millwright apprenticeship in 1959. He was employed as a millwright at Clinton Corn from 1952-1979, International Harvester from 1979-1983, Clinton YMCA from 1984-1999 as building superintendent and CEO of SuBaBiNa Investment Firm from 2002 till present. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Parish, Clinton Moose Lodge 363, the Quarter Century Club of Clinton Corn, Iowa Honey Producers Association, Northern Illinois Pigeon Association and Sidewinder bowling team. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, fishing, hunting, swimming, bee keeping, pigeon raising and card playing. He is survived by his loving wife, Ardean Carlson of Clinton; two sons, John E. (Elizabeth) Carlson of Lynn Center, Illinois, Daniel D. (Beth) Carlson of Clinton; three daughters, Barbara (Howard) Hartman of Lindenhurst, Illinois, Susan (Robert) Erickson of McFarland, Wisconsin, and Nancy (Dennis) Witt of Clinton; one brother, Donald E. Carlson of Mt. Vernon, South Dakota; sixteen grandchildren: Jennifer (Nick) Border, Christopher Carlson, Emily Carlson, Jason (Lynn Marie) Hartman, Lindsay (Christopher) Rainey, Chad (Danielle) Hartman, Kim (Paul) Muench, Randy Erickson, Tiffany Witt, Rachael (Brian) Bartachek, Kenny Mitchell, Courtney Holcomb, Jacob Carlson, Nicholas Carlson, Samantha Carlson, Hannah Carlson; eight great-grandchildren: Katelyn Border, Caroline Border, William Rainey, Alexander Holcomb, Jordan Bartachek, Sierra Muench, Trevor Muench, Piper Erickson, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant sister. The family requests that memorials be made to American Heart Association.
