CLINTON — Carl Grandvil James, 67, of Clinton, IA, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2008, after a lengthy illness. Born on March 3, 1941, in Farrell, PA, Carl was the youngest of eight children born to David and Mildred Wright James. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and one brother. He leaves to cherish in his memory four children, Kimberly (Curtis) James-DeVan (Roanoke, VA), Seneca Firmin (New Orleans, LA), Carla L. James (Roanoke, VA) and Anthony Farrell (Clinton, IA); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, M. Vivian James, Titus Ball (Utica, NY) and Dava P. James (Neveda, IA); two brothers, Lester A. James (Fresno, CA) and Louis B.P. James (Chicago, IL); stepmother, Pauline P. James (Neveda, IA); former wife of 15 years Barbara Dabner James; a special niece and nephew, Juanita Clark (Pasadena, MD) and William Samuels (Grove City, PA); special friends, William (Bill) and Melvina Rose and Jerry and Jo Campbell; a host of nieces, nephews and friends. At Carl’s request his body was donated to the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine for scientific purposes. A memorial service to celebrate Carl’s life will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church, Clinton, IA, with the Reverend Van Flowers officiating.
