CLINTON — Richard “Dick” Huyck, age 90, of Clinton, died Tuesday Oct. 28, 2008, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clinton. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 5, 2008, at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 309 30th Ave. North, in Clinton. Military rites will be accorded by the Clinton AMVETS. According to his wishes, his body was donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical Department in Iowa City. Following the service, Dick would like to invite his family and friends to Rastrelli’s for a time of fellowship in his memory. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Richard was born on March 16, 1918, in Battle Creek, MI, the son of Lyle and Adeline (Steininger) Huyck. He graduated from Mishawaka High School, Mishawaka, IN, in 1936 and received his Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Indiana in 1951. Dick was a First Lieutenant with the Army Air Corps during WWII. He served with the 8th Air Force, 466th Bomb Group, piloting 29 missions in a B-24 to the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. Richard married Elizabeth Taft on Dec. 29, 1956, in Muncie, IN. Dick was the Executive Director of the Clinton County Mental Health Center, which he started in 1970. He retired in 1983. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship since its inception in 1975 and had served a term as its president. He was a member of Lyons Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite, where he received a 50-year membership certificate for both. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers and served as past President of the Iowa Association of Community Mental Health Centers. He was on the Planning and Design Committee of the Downtown Partnership of the Clinton Chamber of Commerce, where he received a volunteer award in 2002. He served as Program Coordinator for The Partnership Way for many years. He was a member of Riverside Park Commission since 1997, a volunteer at Clinton Community College since 1983, where he received a volunteer award in 1992. Richard is survived by his special family, Cheryl and Ryann Smith of Clinton; and a special friend, Robert (Lois) Seger of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter. Death date: Oct. 28, 2008
