CLINTON — Phillip J. Hoffman, 79, of Clinton, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus, Clinton. Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at Prince of Peace Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory where a rosary will be led by his children at 4:00 p.m. Phillip James Hoffman was born on August 28, 1929, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Walter and Fern (Galitz) Hoffman. He married Mary Lou Anthony on July 2, 1949, in Clinton. Phillip was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School. Phillip was purchasing agent with Carlon retiring in 1991, he was also employed with Clinton Corn for 16 years and owned and operated Philou’s Ceramics for 25 years. Phillip was a member of Prince of Peace Parish where he was a lector, an Extraordinary Minister of the Holy Eucharist, and on the Building Committee, a member of Kiwanis where he had been Secretary, a member and past-president of the Clinton Bowling Association receiving it’s Man of the Year Award in 1978, a former member and past-president of the Clinton Jaycees and received it’s Distinguished Service Award, and a member of Boy Scouts for over 37 years, serving as a Explorer Scout Post Leader, received the Vigil Honor Order of the Arrow in 1956, and received the scout’s highest award the Silver Beaver Award in April 1962. Phillip is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Clinton; two daughters, Carol Ann (Michael) Johnson of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Janice Marie (Robert) Neisslie of Clinton, Iowa; one son, Robert Alan (Bonnie) Hoffman of Evergreen, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Michele Guidebeck, Lake Johnson, Lee (Betsy) Hoffman, John Paul Johnson, Clint (Danielle) Guidebeck, Ryan Hoffman, Adam Johnson, and Catherine Johnson; four great-grandchildren, Ashley Council, Payton Nicol, Sarah Guidebeck, and James Johnson; his twin-sister, Phyllis Maltas of Hendersonville, North Carolina; and his brother, Charles (Phyllis) Hoffman of Muscatine, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials can be made to the Prince of Peace Building Fund or Masses.
