GODFREY, Ill. — Margaret E. Basden, 88, died at 6:10 p.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton. She was born January 23, 1920, in Carrollton, IL, to Claude and Edna (Gilliland) Cummings. On June 18, 1937, she married Charles Basden in St. Louis County, MO, and he survives. She was a member of Abundant Life Community Church in Alton; she enjoyed the outdoors and loved her grandchildren and was proud that all four have attained a college degree. She is survived by two sons, Lynn and his wife Sandra Basden of Camdenton, MO, and Richard Basden of Clinton, Iowa, formally of Jacksonville, IL, and Linda Basden of Michael, IL. Four grandchildren, Traci Basden of St. Peters, MO, Kelli Robertson of Edwardsville, IL, Jonathan Basden of Highland, IL, and Margaret Leise of Lockport, IL. Nine great- grandchildren, Taylor and Clay Goodman, Noah and Kyndall Robertson, Cole, Lia and Caitlin Basden, Haven and Eden Leise. One brother, Leonard Cummings of Meadowbrook, IL. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Turner and Ruth Russell. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008, at GENT Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at GENT Funeral Home with the Reverend Sam Henning to officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
