CLINTON — Grace M. Murphy, age 86, of Clinton, died Friday Oct. 17, 2008, at the Alverno Health Care Facility. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2008, at Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be held Monday 9:30 a.m. until the service hour at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be held at St. Irenaeus Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Eric, Ryan, Troy, Matt; great-grandsons, Alex and Austin Murphy. Memorials may be given to Prince of Peace Parish or Alzheimer’s Association. Grace was born on Nov. 20, 1921, in Clinton, IA, the daughter of James and Mary (Carew) Shanahan. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1940. She married Charles Murphy on Oct. 8, 1949, in Clinton. She was a dedicated homemaker, but also worked at Schick Hospital, Telephone Company and National-By-Products. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, sporting events, musicals and wintering in Tucson, AZ. Grace is survived by her husband, Charles of Clinton; three sons, Dennis Murphy of Butner, NC, Timothy (Jan) Murphy of Iowa City, IA, and Gerry (Trudy) Murphy of Clinton; her daughter, Melissa Murphy of New York, NY; four grandsons and two great-grandsons; and a sister, Betty Monahan of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Joseph and Herb, and three sisters, Mildred, Lorraine and Geraldine.Death date: Oct. 17, 2008
