ERIE, Ill. — Richard Murphy, 71, of Erie, died Friday, September 12, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Erie United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. A memorial fund has been established.Richard was born April 18, 1937, in Keokuk, IA, the son of Leo and Lilith Gabriel Murphy. He married Marilyn Hale on March 3, 1963, in Keokuk. He was a band and vocal teacher in public schools. He then was a business owner and accountant. Recently his hobbies included being involved with barbershop choruses, barbershop quartets and playing in bands. Other hobbies were wordworking, biking and golfing.Survivors include his wife; a daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Myron Gwinner, Onsted, MI; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Dana Murphy, Milan; grandchildren, Caleb and Joshua Gwinner and Zachary Murphy; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Harley Hale, Osceola, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and a sister, May.Death date: Sept. 12, 2008
