CAMANCHE — William “Bill” F. Benson, 76, of Camanche, passed away Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, North Campus. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 4, 2008, from 4 – 8 p.m. at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2610 Manufacturing Drive. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008, at Prince of Peace Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Anthony Herold officiating. Pallbearers will be Dick Miller, Jeff Miller, Clarence Henry, Martin Broadrick, Marty Hill Jr. and Tom Christofferson. Honorary pallbearers will be Linda and Bill Stroud, Stephanie Mundhank, Kevin Hansen and Dave Keller. Burial will follow at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. William Festus was born October 15, 1931, in Clinton to Wayne and Genevieve (Smith) Benson. Bill served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1949–1951. He married Maybelle Sihrer on December 19, 1964, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She passed away April 4, 1988. Bill later married Darlene Clark on December 7, 1995, in Clinton. Bill worked at DuPont, was a night manager at Randall’s Food and Kopps Market and was Head Custodian at Prince of Peace Academy and College Preparatory. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, the Court House Tigers Club and a member of the Clinton Bowling League. Bill loved the Cubs, fishing and puzzles. Bill is survived by his wife, Darlene, of Camanche; daughters, Audrey (Lee) Mundhank of Clinton, Tina Benson of Clinton, Debbie (Mike Hill) Benson of Clinton and Dixie Benson of Clinton; sons, Scott (Tressa) McGoldrick of Marshville, MO, Wayne (Dawn) Benson of Clinton and Kenny Benson of Clinton; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; first wife, Maybelle; son, Donnie and one sister. Memorials can be made to the family.
