FULTON, Ill. — LaVern E. Rowson, 84, of Fulton, formerly of Elvira, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at Eagle Point Nursing Home in Clinton, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2008, at the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church with Bill Michaelsen officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Leroy Andresen, Scott Meggers, Doug Heppner and Dean Heppner. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory. LaVern Edward Rowson was born on October 20, 1923, in Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Henrietta (Dohse) Rowson. He married Deloris Holtz on July 21, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa. LaVern attended the Elvira Schools. He farmed his entire life from age nine until he retired at 72 years old in rural Clinton County. LaVern was a longtime member of Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, a member of the Clinton County Farm Bureau and the Clinton Moose Lodge. He enjoyed farming, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events and activities and most importantly dancing with Dede.LaVern is survived by his loving wife Deloris of Fulton, Illinois; three daughters, Susan (Garth) Evers of Clinton, Iowa, Sherry (Roger) Trenkamp of Preston, Iowa, Sheila Frommelt of Naples, Florida; one son, Dale (Grace) Rowson of Elvira, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Audra Rowson, Angie (Ted) Boyle, Chad (Stacy) Rowson, Scott Evers, Stacy (Tim) Sikkema, Shawn (Tracy) Trenkamp, Ryan (Melissa) Trenkamp, Kevin (Rachel) Trenkamp and Courtney Yaddof; six great-grandchildren, Josie and Luke Boyle, Madilyn and Blake Rowson, Kamryn Sikkema, and Jarrett Trenkamp; three stepgrandchildren, Jennifer Barker, Michelle (Elpidio) Cuatlacuatl and William Hoppe; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Gustavo and Adela Cuatlacuatl; and two sisters, Helen Goddard of DeWitt, Iowa, and Betty Dierks of Camanche, Iowa.LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one grandson.
