CLINTON — Evelyn C. Sargent, age 85, of Clinton, died Monday August 11, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in DeWitt. Evelyn was born on July 2, 1923, in Monmouth, IA, the daughter of George and Delia (Britt) Crowley. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1941. She married Charles H. Sargent on June 24, 1948, in Clinton. He died in 1983. She and her husband operated Sargent Floor Coverings in Clinton. She also worked at Mt. Alverno and DuPont. She was a former member of the Eagles Club. She loved to go garage sales and to do things for her family. Evelyn is survived by her three daughters, Kathleen (Keith) Williams of Grand Prairie, TX, Patricia (Brett) Muehleip of Shullsburg, WI, and Mary Jo (Hank) Haas of Dubuque, IA; three grandsons, Jason Smith, Scott Gano, and Henry Haas; two great-grandchildren, Tak Smith and Bailey Smith; a brother, Lawrence “Ed” Crowley of Clinton; and two sisters, Teresa Jepsen of Clinton and Bernie (Jerry) Stratman of Cypress, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Angie Davis.Death date: Aug. 11, 2008
