Low Moor - Mrs. Hattie Barker, 86, one of Low Moor's oldest residents, died in Jane Lamb hospital, Clinton this morning, as a result of a fall in her home Feb. 15.
Harriet Dawson was born in a log cabin in Collingwood, Ontario, Can., Dec. 26, 1856. She was one of seven daughters born to Thomas and Maria (Tate) Dawson. Her parents and older sisters came from England, landing in Quebec, April 5, 1954.
When she was two years of age the family came to Iowa and resided in Clinton county. She was married to Joseph Barker, March 20, 1878, who preceded her in death.
She was a member of Low Moor Methodist church where she was communion steward for the last 20 years. She was a charter member of the W.S.C.S.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Howson of Low Moor and Mae, at home; three granddaughters, Mrs. Ralph Webber, Mrs. Clarence Healless and Mrs. Harold Holle all of Clinton; one grandson Roy E. Howson, Beloit, Wis.; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The body will repose in Bragonier funeral home this evening where friends may call, and will be taken to her home in Low Moor Wednesday evening. A prayer service will be held in the home Thursday afternoon followed by services in the Low Moor church at 3 p.m., with the Rev. D.D. whitmore officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill cemetery, Camanche.
