CLINTON — LaVern J. Manning, age 82, of Clinton, entered into eternal life on Wednesday, July 30, 2008, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family and his pastors. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11:00 am at the Church of the Open Door, with Rev. James Machen Sr. officiating. Visitation will be held Friday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Church of the Open Door and Saturday 10:00 a.m. until the service hour at the church. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Derek Wilson, Joe Manning, Paul Levesque, Dan Bailey, Bryan Wagner, and Rob Manning. Honorary pallbearers will be Rich Lewis and Ben Ehrhart. LaVern was born on May 21, 1926, in Clinton, IA, the son of Clemens and Marie (Bassler) Manning. He graduated from Lyons High School in 1944. He served in the US Air Force from 1950-1955. He married Helen Yarnell on Feb. 10, 1961 in Dubuque, IA. He farmed in rural Clinton, was a caretaker at the Cody Homestead in LeClaire, IA, worked maintenance at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, worked with his wife Helen at Manning Real Estate, and was a bus driver for Clinton Schools before retiring in 2002. He was a member of Clinton American Legion and Loyal Order of the Moose. He enjoyed gardening, camping, and spending time with his family. LaVern is survived by his wife, Helen, who was the love of his life; four daughters, Mrs. Debbie Yarnell (Derek) Wilson of Clinton, Mrs. Dawn (Paul) Levesque of Moline, Il, Mrs. Lori (Dan) Bailey of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Kim (Bryan) Wagner of Gurnee, IL; two sons, Joe (Lynn McGarry) Manning of Ankeny, IA and Rob (Cristal) Manning of Moline, IL; 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; his extended family,Kathy Schoel of Clinton, Marcia Manning of Moline, IL, and Wendy Buikema of Clinton; two sisters, Mrs. Marilyn (Tony) Tometich of Muscatine, IA and Mrs. Kathleen (Ed) Claussen of Maxwell, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Francis.Death date: July 30, 2008#
