MAQUOKETA — Elizabeth Banowetz, 94, of Maquoketa, died Wednesday evening, July 30, 2008, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, following a brief illness. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, with the Rev. Clarence Beckley officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Elizabeth was born on October 26, 1913, in rural Wyoming, Iowa, daughter of Jacob and Cecelia (Sterbenz) Stanisha. She married Victor M. Banowetz on August 4, 1937 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. He died on January 26, 1999. She farmed with her husband in Jackson County for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. She had been a volunteer at Jackson County Public Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Madonna (Bob) Bormann, of Monticello, and Geraldine (Tom) Hoyt, of Eagle Grove; two sons, Delbert (Peggy) Banowetz, of Dubuque, and Mike Banowetz, of Maquoketa; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
