LAKEWAY, Texas — Martin Duane Stevenson of Lakeway, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 21, 2008, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 65 years old. Born August 11, 1942, to Loren and Julia Stevenson in Monmouth, Illinois, Martin is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Dottie Stevenson, and their three children — Carey Stevenson of Richmond, Virginia, John Stevenson of New Orleans, Louisiana, and Brooke Stevenson Toeller and her husband, Michael Toeller, of Frisco, Texas.Martin was a CPA and Partner with the accounting firm Ernst and Young, LLP. His distinguished career took his family to live in Dallas, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana and Sao Paulo, Brazil. His work took him around the world several times. Martin and Dottie Stevenson retired to Lakeway, Texas in December 2002.Martin grew up in Biggsville, Illinois, and graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, Iowa. He attended The University of Iowa, and graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting in 1969. While attending college, Martin served in the Iowa and Texas National Guard.Apart from his family, Martin’s passions were college football, especially The University of Texas, watching the NFL, especially the Dallas Cowboys, and watching major league baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. Martin was a voracious reader and “The Rainman” of crossword puzzles. He continued to expand his mind even after retirement and well into his illness. Martin was an intelligent man of few words, but when he spoke, people took notice. He was a charming, gentle, kind, and loving man with a dry sense of humor who valued his family most. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.Martin was preceded in death by his father, Loren Stevenson, and his father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Carrie Love. He is survived by his mother, Julia Stevenson of Clinton, Iowa, brothers Donald Stevenson and wife Danna of Highpoint, North Carolina, and Rodney Stevenson and wife Karen of Madison, Wisconsin, many sisters and brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2008 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services celebrating Martin's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2008 at Lakeway Church with Pastor Ron Kelling officiating.
