Davenport, Iowa Funeral service and a Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Gregg A. Goetzl, 50, a resident of Davenport and formerly of Clinton, Iowa will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 4105 N. Division Street, Davenport. Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in Clinton Lawn Cemetery, Clinton, Iowa. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service offered at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home that all are invited to attend.Gregg died Sunday, July 20, 2008 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf following an extended illness. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.Gregg Allyn Goetzl was born October 17, 1957 in Clinton a son of Gordon H. and Mary (Ryan) Goetzl. He graduated from Clinton High School and attended the Iowa Commission for the Blind, Des Moines, Iowa and the former North East Iowa Technical Institute in Calmar, Iowa. He received degrees in Carpentry, Building Materials Management and Construction.Gregg had been employed for over 27 years at Seiffert Lumber assisting Customer Sales Relations. He had been an avid fisherman, and cherished the peacefulness when canoeing; he especially loved dining out with family and friends. Gregg was also a talented craftsman and could fix just about anything; he enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving, stain glass work and bicycle mechanics.Memorials can be made to the American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Flood Relief, or to Prince of Peace Catholic Church Building Fund, Clinton, Iowa. Those left to honor his memory include his parents, Gordon and Mary Goetzl, Clinton, Iowa; sisters and a brother-in-law, Cheryl and Kent Kolwey, Davenport and Barbara Rehder, Lisbon, Iowa; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Donna Goetzl, Milan, Illinois; Kevin and Sherry Goetzl, Urbandale, Iowa; and David and Kathy Goetzl, Clinton, Iowa; loving nieces and nephews, Bree and Kyton Rehder; Derek Goetzl; Ryan and Serena Goetzl; and Alyson and Megan Goetzl.Online remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting Gregg's obituary at www.hmdfuneralhome.com.
