WHEATLAND — Mike Dykema, 51, Wheatland, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, July 8, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center-DeWitt. He was born January 6, 1957, in Sterling, Illinois, to Theodore and Faye (Steinbeck) Dykema. Mike graduated with the Wheatland High School class of 1975. He attended auto mechanic school in Des Moines. He was employed much of his life in the trucking and construction industry and most recently by Wabash. Mike was an avid NASCAR fan (especially #88) and enjoyed working on cars and motorcycles as well as doing a little fishing. Surviving are a sister, Marilyn Dykema-Dehner, Wheatland; a nephew, Andrew Dehner and his wife, Courtney Blake, Iowa City, Iowa; a dear aunt, Mae Jean Leinbaugh, DeWitt, Iowa; a special friend, Jan McDonald, Wheatland; other relatives and friends. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Natalie Dehner. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be at Our Savior’s Cemetery, rural Calamus. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Benischek, Kevin Benischek, Alan Benischek, Dana Pelley, Andy Dehner and Doug Ruprecht. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com.
