GRAND MOUND — Mary R. Kohnert, 77, of Calamus, Iowa died on Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, IA. She was born January 1, 1931, in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Vencil and Christina (Klar) Hofsheier. On September 17, 1949 she married Milton Kohnert at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport, IA. Mary cooked at the Calamus School for 23 years. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound and a member of its Ladies Aid. She was a great cook and known for baking buns and rolls. Surviving is her husband, Milton; sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond, State Center, IA; Richard and Laura, Newhall, IA and Robert and Kathy, Grand Mound, IA; grandchildren Scott (Allyssa), Katie, Krista and Kendra Kohnert; her brother Steve (Beverly) Hofsheier, Omaha, NE and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and five brothers. Funeral services will be 10:30 on Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound, Iowa. Rev. Dennis Arndt will officiate. Visitation will be 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound, Iowa. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Calamus, Iowa.
