1912 - 2003Evelyn Schreiber, 90, Wheatland, died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Wheatland Manor.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Wheatland. Visitation is one hour before the service at the church. Inurnment will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Evelyn Cooper was born June 17, 1912, in Monticello, Ky., to Merritt and Dicey (Bates) Cooper. Her family moved to Iowa in 1915. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1932. On Nov. 19, 1934, she married Clare W. Schreiber in Iowa City.
Evelyn worked for Woolworth’s and J.C. Penney in Marshalltown. In 1957, she and her husband moved to Marion. She also worked for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, retiring in 1974.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Barb) Schreiber, Wheatland; grandsons, Kirk Schreiber, Shoreview, Minn., and Kevin Schreiber, Lakewood, Colo.; a sister, Bernice Goecke, Cedar Falls; sisters-in-law, Dawn Cooper, Sparks, Nev., Lucille Woollard, Redmond, Ore., and Helen Mapes, Rochester, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or St. Paul’s United Church of Christ. Chapman Funeral Home, Wheatland, is in charge of arrangements.
