Services for Richard W. Sorensen, 74, of 307 West Pleasant St., will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Union Cemetery south of Maquoketa. Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Andrew AMVETS Post 62 and Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether will conduct military services at the burial.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Sorensen died Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at University Hospitals, Iowa City. He was involved in an automobile accident, due to a heart attack, on Oct. 4, 2002, and had been hospitalized since.
He worked several years at Haskins & Sells Accounting Firm in Chicago and later was an insurance agent in Maquoketa, first at Farm Bureau and then at American Family for about 30 years. He also ran Maquoketa Monuments.
He was born June 29, 1928, in Delmar. He married Lucille Meinke in 1950 in Elwood.
During World War II, he served in the Navy. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Memorials may be made to Delmar United Methodist Church or Diabetes Association.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille; and brother, Retired Commander Howard Sorensen, Virginia Beach, Va.
