Vera Winchip
1903 - 2003Services for Vera G. Winchip, 99, Maquoketa, and formerly of Delmar, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carson & Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
She died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.
She and her husband had farmed in the Delmar area. In 1958, they began the Winchip Grocery Store, Delmar, operating this until her husband’s death. After his death, their son, Butch, joined the family business and they operated it together for many years.
Vera G. Winchip was born May 5, 1903, in Lost Nation. She married Merton H. Winchip in 1925 in Maquoketa. He died in 1961.
Memorials may be made to Jackson County Senior Center.
Survivors include, daughters, Carol Wiggins, Clearwater, Fla., Myrna Rakocy, Bettendorf; sons, James, Mt. Vernon, Steven, Cherry Valley, Ill.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Forrest Tubbs, Maquoketa.
