CLINTON — Gloria M. M. Pelham, age 82, of Clinton, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16th, at Community Congregational Church in Clinton with the Rev. Dan Schadt officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Pape Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Errol Peters, Tom Neill, Lyle Pelham, John Gramer, Jim O’Steen and Mark Pelham. Gloria was born in Lyons, Iowa, on May 20, 1925, the daughter of Algot and Gerda Johanson Oakleaf. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1943 and attended art school in Chicago. Gloria married Clarence Pelham on October 13, 1946, at Community Congregational Church in Clinton. Gloria was a life-long member of the church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school classes. She belonged to the church’s Women’s Circle and had been a member of the choir since she was 14 years old. Gloria worked as a bookkeeper with Oakleaf and Mangold Accountants. She volunteered for many years delivering Mobil Meals and at the Clinton Art Gallery. Gloria was known for her pastel portraits, especially of the former ministers at the Community Congregational Church. She not only enjoyed painting but also making pressed floral note cards. Gloria was a Girl Scout leader for over 10 years. Gloria is survived by her husband, Clarence; a daughter, Karen (James) Pelham O’Steen of Laurel, MD; and their daughters, Dr. Brittany (Dr. Simon) Ritchie of Silver Spring, MD, and Lindsay O’Steen of Laurel; a son, Mark (Kali) Pelham of Buffalo, MN; and their daughters, Samina and Erica Pelham, both of Buffalo; and a sister, Astrid (John) Gramer of Clinton. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents. Memorials may be made to the Community Congregational Church.Death date: May 13, 2008
