PRESTON — Henry R. “Hank” Trenkamp, age 86, of Preston, Iowa, died Monday, May 12, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston, Iowa, with Father Don Plamondon as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Sugar Creek. Friends may call from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston. A memorial fund has been established in Henry’s memory. Condolences and memorial tributes may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Henry was born on April 25, 1922, in Sugar Creek, near Preston, the son of Henry and Christina (Banowetz) Trenkamp. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Sugar Creek. Henry married Marion E. Thines on January 2, 1946, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Preston. Henry farmed his entire life, starting on a farm west of Preston in 1946. He then acquired what is now the family farm in rural Sugar Creek in 1953. In 1981, Henry and Marion returned to Preston, but he never retired from farming. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Preston and the Clinton County Farm Bureau. Henry enjoyed golfing, playing cards, especially Euchre and was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He also enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henry is survived by his wife, Marion, of Preston; one son, Darrell (Lois) Trenkamp of Charlotte, Iowa; six daughters, Shirley (Jim) Pitcher of Coralville, Iowa, Sharon (Dwayne) Driscoll of Preston, Sandy (Ralph) Bormann of Clinton, Iowa, Donna Lubben of Low Moor, Iowa, Darla Wenzel of Davenport, Iowa, and Deb (Bob) Burken of Preston; twenty-one grandchildren; three step-grandsons; ten great-grandchildren; and fourteen step-great-grandchildren; five brothers, Leo (Irene) Trenkamp, Frank Trenkamp, Bernard Trenkamp, Edward (Lillian) Trenkamp, and Ray (Velma) Trenkamp, all of Preston; one sister, Margaret (Adrian) Roling of Preston, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. Henry was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald and William; son in-law, Don Lubben; one grandson, Keith Bormann; six brothers, John “Jack” Trenkamp, August Trenkamp, Angel Trenkamp, William Henry Trenkamp, Jim Trenkamp and Joe Trenkamp; six sisters, Caroline “Carrie” Empen, Marie “Mayme” Feller, Catherine “Kate” Henningsen, Wilhelmina “Minnie” Feller, Theresa Gonner-Bachman, and Eva Knutsen. Death date: May 12, 2008
