DALLAS CENTER — Harriet D. Faur, 90, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 28, 2008, at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center. Services will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel with burial at 1 p.m. Saturday at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa. Friends may call after noon Thursday where the family will greet friends from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Harriet was born on March 31, 1918, to Harold M. and Mathilda Holm Rasmussen in Clinton, Iowa. She grew up on the farm and attended country schools through 8th grade. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1936. Harriet married Henry J. Faur on June 14, 1941, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Clinton. Henry preceded her in death January 14, 1979. She was a homemaker until she went to work for A.C. Nielsen Clearing House in Clinton. After her retirement in 1982, Harriet enjoyed traveling and visited many areas of the United States, including Hawaii. In 1991, Harriet moved to Urbandale to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was active in the Walnut Creek YMCA senior group and enjoyed shopping and having lunches with her friends. Harriet moved to Spurgeon Manor in 2004. There she made a new set of friends who were dear to her as well. Harriet enjoyed reading, needlework, bingo, word puzzles and watching Lawrence Welk on Saturday nights. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Janis (Gary) Colwell of Adel; her son, James of Des Moines; her grandsons, Chris (Kerry) Colwell of West Des Moines and Jeff (Emily) Colwell of Waukee. She took great delight in her four great-grandchildren, Jackson, Hayden, Jessica and Mallory. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Henry, her brother, Vernon Rasmussen, and sister, Maxine Harrison. Memorials may be directed to Spurgeon Manor.Death date: April 28, 2008
